Never walking alone with Liverpool

December 12th, 2007 ·

It never ceases to amaze me, how Liverpool can be so dull and play such stagnant football one game, and then play exciting engaging and delightful football on another day. Why? They perform when they need to.

Champions league football has brought some of the best games in recent memory, most of which, involve Liverpool. Liverpool beating Olympiacos with that, perfect, Steven Gerard shot. Liverpool coming back from 3 goals to clinch the trophy in 2005. Enthralling. Liverpool is the kind of team you just cant hate, they always seem to be the underdog.

This morning’s match was another great display from the reds, giving fans hope that they might reach the final one more time. 4 nil to the team that dominated them last time around was a very good result, Liverpool’s best away win, but most of all it was fun to watch.

On the Ausy side of things, Harry Kewell played a stunning game, proving to Rafa that he deserves a place in the squad. Kewell set up both Torres goal and Kuyt’s and was a real threat on the left wing, playing some of the best football he’s played since Leeds.

Liverpool 07/08? Who knows.

Pim Verbeek?

December 7th, 2007 ·

Its official, Pim Verbeek is the new Australian coach, taking over after Dick Advocaat reneged 3 weeks ago.

Australia will be continuing with the Dutch system after our success in the 2006 world cup in Germany with Gus Hiddink. Verbeek was assistant coach to Hiddink in the 2002 world cup when South Korea surprised everyone and made the semi’s.

Verbeek was recommended by both the Dutch FA and Hiddink himself. He will be relocating to Australia very soon and observing the final rounds of the A-League. Australia have a somewhat difficult road to qualify for the 2010 world cup in South Africa, but Verbeek’s experience in Asia will prove handy.

Never heard of Verbeek? Me neither, but he seems like a worthy candidate. South Africa here we come.

Portsmouth in the Top Four?

December 7th, 2007 ·

Redknapp certainly for the last two years revived the club from the South Coast. The manager position for England could seat Harry if things keep going as well as they have for Portsmouth.
O'Neill
Aston Villa’s O’Neill thinks the Portsmouth players are “roaring” after some coming through well in the fixtures.

L.A Galaxy and Beckham are a joke

November 27th, 2007 ·

Well, I admit that it was a fairly enjoyable game to watch. But I am sick of the hype surrounding David Beckham, he has not played his best football since leaving Manchester United but is still treated like the best midfielder ever. Yes he can provide some excellent balls, and pop up with a free kick from time to time, but he is always going to look good playing for a team like L.A Galaxy, maybe why he made the multi million dollar move.

The entire match revolved around Beckham, not on the pitch, but the cameras and commentary, there was even a David Beckham special before the game commenced. This is ridiculous, football is about two teams playing a game, not about one celebrity who also happens to play the game.

I wonder how he felt, after his team conceded 5 goals against a not excellent Sydney FC. At some points the frustration came through, like his horrible challange on a Sydney player, got up and hugged the man, after swearing and shaking a finger at the same player for a far less stressing tackle on himself. It was a pathetic display from the Americans, Kevin Harmse in particular stands out. Stomping on his oponents arm, when he was on the ground, while looking at his face, it was hard to watch he deserved the red card and hopefully will receive further discipline once the footage is viewed again.

In short, Beckham has gone above football, and its ridiculous, football should not be about one man who can curl the ball.
